Centennial College played an important role in the language journey of 13 Afghan women judges and 5 other adult members of their families who studied English for Academic Purposes in some or all of level 1, level 2 and level 3. Most succeeded in obtaining their Ontario College Certificate which positioned them to seek employment or pursue other post-secondary education.
Humber Polytechnic provided scholarships for two Afghan women judges to attend English for Academic Purposes during which they had help covering the cost of transportation and some supplies including providing laptops. Each held a part-time job at Humber, an invaluable opportunity to access “Canadian experience”. Humber has also contributed to their careers by providing scholarships for 4 Afghan women judges to attend one of the paralegal programs.
The Afghan Women’s Organization Refugee and Immigrant Services through its Executive Director Adeena Niazi and the Chair of the Board of Asma Faizi provided invaluable friendship and guidance to all of the 25 Afghan women judges and their families.
Peel Law Association provided generous support to the 5 Afghan women judges in Mississauga that included a laptop, career coaching, and networking as guests at the Annual Judges’ Night dinner
