The Afghan women judges and adult family members need mentoring opportunities in legal and other careers. All are challenged by the need to have “Canadian experience” which is often a barrier to any kind of employment. For those with English language proficiency, creating shadowing opportunities in law firms is an invaluable way to introduce Afghan women judges to the culture of a law office, or domestic and international areas of law, or to proceedings at the courts. Shadowing opportunities might lead to mentoring opportunities including paid internships. Similar opportunities for their spouses would also be helpful in a variety of professions and businesses.
